What to pack
A warm layer for winter nights, sunscreen, scarf, sunglasses and a torch.
Food
Dinner and breakfast are usually served at camp. Tell the camp about dietary needs in advance.
Safety
Stay with your group on the dunes after dark and follow your camel handler’s instructions.
What to wear
Light, loose layers by day, with long sleeves against the sun. A warm jacket in winter. Closed shoes are better than sandals on hot or thorny sand. Modest clothing is appreciated in villages.
Phones and power
Mobile coverage can be patchy in the desert, so download your booking details and maps beforehand and tell family if you may be out of touch. Bring a power bank, and ask the camp about charging.
Money
Carry some cash for tips, small purchases and optional extras, since card machines may not work out on the dunes.
