While sunset draws the crowds, sunrise is the quiet side of Sam. The sand is cool underfoot, the overnight wind has often wiped away yesterday’s footprints, and you may have a dune almost to yourself.

Why go at sunrise
It is the coolest part of the day, which matters from April onward, and the light is soft and clean for photographs. It also leaves the rest of the day free for the drive back and for sightseeing in Jaisalmer.
How it works from the camp
Stay the night and it is easy: we agree a wake-up time the evening before, you head out to the dunes by jeep or camel, and you are back for breakfast before the 10 AM check-out. Sunrise is around 7:30 AM in the winter months and around 6 AM in June, and we confirm the time for your date.
Coming from Jaisalmer city
The camp is about 40 km from the city, roughly an hour by road, so a sunrise trip from a city hotel means a very early start. A night at the camp is much more comfortable, but a taxi can be arranged if you prefer.
What to bring
A warm jacket in winter, as dawn is the coldest moment of the day. A scarf helps on the camel, and sunglasses are useful once the sun clears the horizon.
Frequently asked questions
Tent stays include a jeep and camel safari. Tell us if you would like yours at sunrise, or ask us to add one, and we will confirm it with your quote.
Sunrise is cooler and quieter. Sunset has more atmosphere and leads into the evening. If you stay overnight you can see both.
