A comfortable night on the dunes
The Royal Swiss Tent is the same tent design as our AC category without the air-conditioning. In winter, when desert nights are cold and days are mild, most guests do not need cooling and prefer to save the difference. Inside you will find a double bed made up with white linen and a patchwork runner, a ceiling fan, bedside charging points, an electric kettle and a small seating corner.
The bathroom
Each tent has an attached bathroom with sandstone walls, a terrazzo floor, a western toilet and a vessel basin. It is a built room rather than a canvas cubicle.
When to choose another category
From March onward, afternoons in the Thar heat up quickly. If you are travelling outside winter, consider the Royal AC Swiss Tent or the Desert AC Suite.

Who the Royal Swiss Tent suits
This is the tent most of our winter guests choose. Between November and February the desert is cold after dark and mild by day, so air-conditioning adds cost without adding comfort. If you want the classic desert-camp night at the lowest rate we offer, start here.
It works well for couples and for families who book two tents side by side. Travelling between March and October? Look at the Royal AC Swiss Tent instead.
Inside the tent
A carved double bed with white linen and a patchwork runner, block-printed canvas walls, a ceiling fan, bedside charging points, an electric kettle and a small seating corner. The tent stands on a raised base, so you are not sleeping on sand.
The bathroom
A built room in yellow Jaisalmer stone with a terrazzo floor, a western toilet and a vessel basin. It is part of the tent, not a shared block across the camp.
A typical stay
Arrive mid-afternoon, leave your bags and head out for a jeep or camel ride to the dunes for sunset. Dinner and folk music follow at the camp. In the morning there is time for sunrise and breakfast before you check out.
Planning tips for winter
Nights from December to January can drop close to freezing. Bring a warm layer for the evening programme outdoors; bedding in the tent is suited to the season. Christmas, New Year and the Desert Festival in February sell out early.
