What a Swiss tent is
A raised canvas tent with a real bed and an attached bathroom. It keeps you close to the desert: you hear the wind and feel the night air.
What a desert cottage is
A built room, usually in stone or mud plaster, with thicker walls that hold cool air better.
Which to choose
In winter a Swiss tent is the more atmospheric choice. From March to October, an AC tent or cottage is more comfortable for sleeping.
Noise and privacy
Canvas does not stop sound, so in a tent you will hear the camp’s music in the evening and your neighbours at night. Thick cottage walls are quieter, which matters for light sleepers and families with young children.
How to decide quickly
Choose a tent if you are visiting from November to February and want the classic desert night. Choose an air-conditioned tent or a cottage if you are travelling from March to October, sleep lightly or are bringing small children or older parents.
