October to March
Warm days and cool to cold nights. The main season, and the best time for camping.
April to June
Very hot days. Visit early or late, and choose an air-conditioned tent.
July to September
Humid with occasional storms. Quieter, and the desert turns briefly green.
Which month is best?
November to February has the most comfortable days, with nights that can get genuinely cold, so bring warm layers. October and March are warmer and often quieter. Late December and early January are the busiest time, and also when rates and availability are tightest, so book early.
Festivals
The Jaisalmer Desert Festival usually falls around February, with events at the fort and on the dunes at Sam. Camps get busy, so check the dates for your year and book well ahead.
Choosing a tent by season
In the cool months a non-AC tent is usually fine. From March onward, choose an air-conditioned tent or suite. Even on hot days, plan safaris for sunrise and sunset, and rest in the shade or by the pool in the afternoon.
