Rooms at Hotel Vasshifa Palace
Hotel Vasshifa PalaceRooms with a window seat
The larger rooms have a feature wall in blue-and-gold or gold damask wallpaper, a queen-size dark wooden bed and a carved sandstone window seat set into an arched niche with gold curtains. A seating chair, a rug, wall sconces and framed black-and-white photographs of the desert complete the room.
Hotel Vasshifa PalaceStandard rooms
Simpler rooms with warm cream walls, a double bed with a navy runner, a wall mirror, bedside tables and an electric kettle with bottled water.
The building
A corner building faced in yellow Jaisalmer stone, with carved jharokha balconies on every floor and a wooden double door at the top of a short flight of steps.
Bathrooms
Attached bathrooms in white marble-effect tiles with a vessel basin on a granite counter, a western toilet, a rain shower and hand shower, and a geyser for hot water.
Rooftop restaurant
A covered terrace with a black-and-white checkerboard floor, carved sandstone walls and a buffet counter. By day it looks over the treetops; at night the coloured glass lanterns are lit and the town lights spread out below.

Choosing a room
For the most character, ask for a room with a carved sandstone window seat and a wallpaper feature wall in blue or gold. For a simpler, lower-priced stay, the standard rooms are quiet and comfortable.
Evenings on the roof
The rooftop restaurant is the place to end the day. Come up after sunset, when the glass lanterns are lit and the lights of Jaisalmer spread out below.
How guests use it
A common plan is one or two nights here for the fort, Patwon Ki Haveli and Gadisar Lake, then one night at our camp at Sam. We send the car to the hotel for the drive to the dunes.
